Water Conservation Preventing Unnecessary Water Loss

• Excessive or unnecessary volume loss
  • Bleeding (we hope not!)
  • Diarrhea
  • Extra urine ("diuresis")
    • We consume things that force extra water loss from the kidney, unnecessarily increasing hydration needs.
• Causes of diuresis
  • salt
  • caffeine
    • De-caf is not caffeine free: it's 16-22% of normal
  • alcohol
  • water
  • sugar
  • medicine
