Individuals differ profoundly.

Not everyone is above average, in fact one of the tragedies of human existence is that the average IQ is only 100, and half of healthy people are below this.

But everyone has both abilities and weaknesses, so that everyone is able to excel at some thing or other.

Because declines in ability with age occur at different rates in people, individual differences increase with age.

But everyone's life differs from all others, more profoundly than the differences in aging rates These things are dependent on time, not on aging.

The social and psychological bumps and bruises we experience sap us of energy and enthusiasm, bring about depression, and these things are often mistakenly or facetiously called “aging.”

The 'oldest' people I've met in my practice have been 30-ish women with preschool children at home including a new baby. “I'm old,” they say. But truly they're exhausted.
