A trolley crosses the Legif bridge toward the State theater.

Trolley stop, Malostranske namesti (square), Mala Strana, Prague.
July 9, 7:45 am

Letenske street, just as it comes off Malostranske namesti to the east.
No, the street does not end here.
You can see that the trolley lines merge and go through the left arch, where two men are foolishly walking. You will understand this foolishness after you discover that just beyond the arch is a sharp corner, and the south/west bound trolley engineer can't see the tunnel until he's nearly in it, just at the end of the double tracks on the other side; and after you have ridden in the trolley and felt the sportscar-like acceleration, and the high speeds and the sudden stops; and after you have been on the south/west-bound trolley while it careers toward the corner and the engineer suddenly sees that another trolley has already laid claim to the tunnel; and there's a jerk and steel wheels screech on steel rails, and no one else in the trolley so much as looks up from his newspaper.

The middle tunnel is not a black hole, it simply resembles one. The tire marks on the cobblestones are not a sign of pessimism or hopelessness; it's dark because the building across the street past the end of the tunnel is deeply shaded.

The arched tunnel at the right is for pedestrians, which the guys on the tracks have perhaps not figured out.

St. Thomas church is to the right.

Trolley arrives at the stop. Or perhaps it's leaving... there's no crowd.

The interior of a Prague trolley car.
The drivers handle these like sports cars: full acceleration, full brakes; heaven help the unwary auto driver who must linger in its way.

The subway stations are decorated with metal discs, each anodized with a different color.
