An old ski chalet at Kaunispaa, Finland.
The logs are squared, and the ends are free at the corners, and tapered.

OK, here's what you've always wanted: an all-glass motel room,
shaped in the traditional form of the Lappish (Sami) hut.
No, it's not for exhibitionists: it's for watching the aurora borealis from your bed,
out of the wind and the cold. I included the sign in the photo so that you can
look up their phone number and ring them up.
In the winter, they also build al large snow motel and a conference center,
here hidden off to the left behind the trees.
A must vacation.

OK, this is the snow motel: you can see the doors of the "units" and not much else.
We did not take the tour to check the accommodations.

Finnish public handicap-accessible toilet.
Retractable hand bars flank the stool.
The Finnish toilet has steep walls inside, eliminating splash and
very water-efficient.

Farm storage building at Seipajarvi, Finland --
This was the only town in this area of Lapland that was not burned in 1947 when the Germans were expelled. The people in this small village had lots of firewood, so they lit it on fire and posted signs on the roads in German saying, "Seipajarvi has already been burned." so the Germans passed it by.

Well, since cooking sausages in the woods didn't work out, we went to Torvinen,
where there is a coffee shop in the woods. It's an historic building, missed by the Germans in 1947, made of square-hewn logs that fit together wonderfully.
there's a giant oven inside, and very few customers this day.
Much more comfortable, in my opinion, than squatting in meter-deep snow trying to keep a sausage organized over a fire.

the photographer was forced to submit to a picture:
"You take all the pictures, and you aren't in any. After you die, people will look at all your pictures and never know if you were really there, or what you looked like!"
Now you know, for better or for worse. Jussi's car, an Opel, at left.

This is an important tower in Helsinki, but I forget which one it is.
Sorry.
