There is a small crowd in front of each sentry, who stands almost motionless. Tourists in little family clusters jabber with each other, then one or some run quickly up beside the sentry, pose awkwardly and self-consciously, giggle, the camera flashes, and they run back. The sentry somehow doesn't crack, even though sometimes the behavior is pretty egregious.July 9, 2004
