Between Flight Physicals,
Show Good Sense!
We are always expected to be wise.
No one is going to check up on you pre or post flight without a reason:
- A ramp check doesn't cover medical unknowns – unless you act bizzare!
- An incident, accident, or complaint is a reason.
- A DUI is a reason to self-report: it's required -

all pilots must send a Notification Letter to FAA’s Security and Investigations Division within 60 calendar days of the effective date of an alcohol-related conviction or administrative action. (Arrests without action must be reported with the next medical)
If you act safely, your only anxiety – and it's a real anxiety – is whether your own sense of health may be sabotaged by some unknown silly rule or diagnosis. Even those of us who know the rules may forget the details.
But: failure to report on the exam form (8500-8) any condition that could result in pilot impairment is a fraud that may bite after you've had an incident.
